A little reminder why I’m doing this…

Sometimes we need to know why we are getting out of bed every day.  For me over the last few months it has been about the kids.  I had no idea that being a part of this ride would effect me as much as it has.

Right now I have three full time jobs.  You don’t beleive me.  I can tell.  I wouldn’t beleive me either.  Maybe I should explain.

Job number 1: Training to be a cyclist.  My evenings and weekends right now are spent between my bike and the gym, with a bit of time to do laundry or prep the next meal to get ready for my next ride.  I now eat all the time and have discovered a bottomless stomache.  Breakfast followed closely by second breakfast and elevensies… that’s right folks I have become a hobit!

Job Number 2: Fundraiser.  Asking people to help is hard work.  I spend a lot of my time explaining why I am doing something so crazy and a bit more talking about the cause itself.  Being involved with a the Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation is lifechanging.  It is 100% net proceeds charity so that means that every cent I raise goes to help kids.

Job Number 3: The one that pays my bills… hmm if only there was a way to work without spending any time doing it… if I can figure that one out I am going for a patent.

Today I was reminded why I am glad to be able to do all of these things.  It is about kids like Blake.  Blake is the son of of one of my collegues.  He is sick and his family have been commuting from New Brunswick to IWK (the children’s hospital in Halifax), this is a common occurance for families with sick kids.  Parents having to give up their jobs to be able to take their kids to treatment, splitting their time between their regular lives and the doctors visits and treatments.

Blake is undergoing treatment and you can find out more about him here

Blake is just one of the many kids out there battling with this awful disease.  There are so many more that need our help.

If you would like to help donate here.  Help me make a difference for these kids

Hot dogs to save the world

One hot dog to fill your tummy, and one to save the world.

A while ago I was approached about a fundraiser to help me meet my $25,000 goal by some friends of mine.  Each day that I spend involved in this cause I realize just how amazing the people around me are.

Some friends of mine at T4G in partnership with the Future Focus Foundation went out of their way to fill some tummies and have some fun to help support me.

At three different locations their team came together to grill up some amazing hot dogs and create a hot dog day to rival the best memories I have of elementary school fundraisers.

Toronto, St. John and Halifax offices brought together teams to eat, organize, grill and set up and clean up for in many cases a girl they had never met.

I am awestruck.  All I can say is that I hope the next time I have a chance to help someone else meet a personal goal I will step up an be half as generous with my time and effort that they have been for me.

I want to call out some of the most amazing people I know!

You guys Rock!

Don’t count the days, make the days count.
As the ride continues to get closer and closer I have to keep reminding myself that everyday is adding value to my journey. Each kilometre I log on the saddle, every dollar I put in the kitty, every chance I get to speak to why I am participating in this ride.
