Something’s got to give…

Today I found myself walking home from work with a serious list of things that I need to acomplish before I found my bed.  The very scary realization that I came to was that it would be long past dawn before I had scratched them all off my mental to do list.

That being said I have decided that it is really time to make some sacrifices in the interest of having adequate time to train for this ride.

I find myself telling my trainer every Saturday that I have missed one or more of my workouts becuase I just plain ran out of… time, energy, enthusiasm, clean laundry….you chose the excuse.  I feel like a kid who blamed my dog for eating my homework.

Ok… so now it’s about compromise… what tasks can I give up in order to make sure I get my ….kilometres, gym time, yoga…. in?

Option 1: Laundry: menial task that eats up at least 3 hours a week

Faced with the concept of not having clean underpants at 5:00am one day I decided that this is defininitely not an item that I can give up.  Laundry is in.  NEXT!

Option 2:  Grocery Shopping: 90 minutes a week in the retail mecca.. driving, parking, packing and unpacking groceries.

Solution: Grocery Gateway… saved grocery lists that mean the entire transaction should take less than 5 minutes; groceries delivered and unpacked in my kitchen… DONE… NEXT!

Option 3: Walking the dog: Roughtly 30 minutes twice a day total of 7 hours a week.

I realized that while I often resent the task at the beginning, it really makes my day better…. tonight we played fetch in the snow… definitely not something I am willing to give up.

Okay.. all in all 90 minutes saved… not sure that’s going to get me to bed earlier, but its a start.  No excuses for Tim this week… just stories of great training, riding, yoga, squash… fill in the blank…
