Going the distance…
I’m going for speed…
Today was my first real attempt at going the distance. A couple of weeks ago I tried for a two hour ride on my trainer and faded away at about 1:40. Not a bad effort overall but today I pushed way past that milestone.
Today my first leg before a break was 2:00hrs! I did it! The feeling of accomplishing this type of goal was outstanding. Over the course of the day I managed to ride for a total of just over 4:00h. Not all of the riding was quality, as my legs really aren’t trained enough to handle this type of effort, but much like training for other events, I know that my body will adapt to the training that I will continue to put it through.
Riding at a store…
Today armed with my bike and trainer I headed out to the Sears store at Erin Mills in Mississauga with two of the other riders Ed and Deb. We were lucky enough to have an amazing team of volunteers with us-many thanks to Marijana, Christine, Phil, and my gym buddy Will.
We managed to garner a great deal of awareness for the ride as well as the privilege of meeting so many wonderful people today that were both baffled and supportive of what the group of us are trying to do.
Thanks Sears Erin Mills for having us!
Our volunteers deserve an award…
I have to send out kudos to the supporters that came along today. Not only did they give up their Saturday for us they knew better than we did what we would need. Every step of the way these four amazing people anticipated every need or want we possibly could have had. They coordinated our donations-thanks to Marijana and family for the seed donations to get us started, got us snacks-thanks for the smoothie Will, made sure we had water and more. We absolutely cannot do this without you guys.
More and more I am starting to realize just how little this ride is about my journey across Canada, and how much more it is about the outstanding individuals all through the effort from now until well beyond September.
But oh is my bum sore….
I’ll be honest, part of the reason I have been fighting the concept of padded bike shorts is because a girl with a bum my size does NOT need to add another inch or two to the overall shape and size of my bum…. I’ve changed my mind. After my four hour ride today I got out of the shower with a red mark on my bum right about the size and shape of the seat of my bike. I guess it is time to put vanity aside for common sense.
Oh well…. at least I can hold onto the fact that I still have shoes that match my bike!
